Avant Media Performance’s “Room” at Spark Festival

Minneappolis, MN — February 21 — Avant Media Performance, Inc. is pleased to announce the performance of “Room” by Johari Mayfield and Randy Gibson as part of the Spark Festival of Electronic Music and Art. “Room” will be performed Friday, February 24th at the Ted Mann Concert Hall alongside works by Alvin Lucier and Kaija Saariaho

“Room” is the exciting new collaboration between choreographer Johari Mayfield and composer Randy Gibson. Mayfield, heralded by The New York Times for being “…in intense perpetual motion, making every small shift in movement quality clear” brings a sensitivity and creativity to this challenging work. Using themes of imprisonment, anxiety, and separation, she weaves a monumental tapestry of raw emotion.

The score by Gibson uses the live sounds created by the dancer through her natural movements to create a world of bangs, bumps, and scrapes that are at once beautiful and disturbing. Dancing atop a platform, Mayfield provides Gibson, who will be performing live as well, with a rich pallet of sounds from which to pull. Emotions flow deeply and intensely in this truly original electronic music experience.

“Room” will have its avant-premiere at the Spark Festival, and was originally performed as a part of the Notes in Motion production ‘Tilt’ in June 2005 at the Gerald W. Lynch Theater in New York City.

Ted Mann Concert Hall is located at 2128 Fourth Street South in Minneapolis. The concert starts at 7:30 pm and admission is Free.
